4. Write it, Draw it, Create it. Bring the idea into the margin of your Bible.
It doesn't have to be drawn. It could be a color, a pasted down cut out, a picture, or even just some washi tape.
Don't let this part turn you away. Maybe for you it's just writing and highlighting focused verses.

5. Date it.

It's so important to date your entries as you are documenting your faith. You will be going back to these verses over and over. It is a beautiful way to witness the timing of answered prayers.

Follow Illustrated faith on Instagram @illustratedfaith or on Face Book "Illustrated Faith" to begin your path of Bible Journaling. The following is my re-interpretation and personal breakdown of the format they use.  My pages and examples below contain examples of Bible journaling products they sell on their site and at www.dayspring.com

7. Forget the rules!!

Just connect with God in an authentic way which feels most comfortable and natural to you.

Bible journaling is an exciting way to engage with Scripture. It can transform the way you spend time in the Word, and it all begins within the margins of your Bible.
With Bible journaling, you will find a creative and fresh approach to the age-old discipline of Bible reading. With pen in hand, you can visually capture Scripture, meditate on God's Word, and memorize the text. Some choose to journal as an expression of private devotion, others journal as an act of worship, and there are even some (like me: and many) who consider it a creative outlet that can be shared.
No matter what your purpose for Bible journaling, the beauty of the movement is this: it doesn’t require a skilled artist. All that matters is that you’re willing to experience God and His Word in a personal and or creative way.

Bible Journaling...Wow, what a game changer!!! One day leaving church my friend Tracy stopped me and asked if I'd like to join her in checking out a Bible-journaling meet-up at her friend's house. She knew how much I enjoyed to create, and said God placed it on her heart to invite me. I'm thankful for her obedience. Little did I know this meet-up would forever change my life!

So that night I went to the home of my now friend Dawn Kelly, and sat down at her dining room table. Dawn had so much knowledge, and her Bible journal was over the top!! I never felt more inspired in my life. Three of my favorite things- God, journaling, and art coming together in a way I never imagined! To be honest, I never really read my bible consistently before this, perhaps because I was having trouble connecting to it in a meaningful way. After this creative encounter at Dawn's house with the word of God I have not been able to stop!! All of my first pages were images that I'd already created on canvas, as well as sketches I'd created throughout the years. They were based on verses for different seasons, but now I had a place to keep them all together right next to the word of God (from which the inspiration had come).

I encourage you (if you have not done so already) to check out illustratedfaith.com.  It's an absolutely amazing website that I just can't get enough of!! Everything you want to know about Bible journaling is right there for the taking. I am so grateful for Shanna Noel and the creative team at Illustrated Faith because when I found Bible journaling I was going through a season of waiting, circling on God to direct me, and having these means of drawing closer to His promises kept me patient. I am so very happy and grateful I found this artful worship!! I needed this, and if you're like me, maybe you need it, too.

I truly believe we were all created to create. This practice fills that need while strengthening our relationship with God. If you're not someone who likes to create artistically, a Bible journal is still a beautiful place for you to take notes, and write down the reflections and prayers of your heart.
